Cave Kids hop into the Easter Holidays with a new adventure

The Easter Bunny will be hopping over to Waitomo next month and leaving plenty of Easter eggs for treasure hunters on the next Cave Kids school holiday programme.

The three-hour dry caving session in Ruakuri Cave will be like being in the Easter Bunny's burrow, allowing adventure seeking Kiwi kids the chance to explore caves and glowworms, and search for treasure, fossils of ancient creatures, and of course Easter eggs!

Running from 6 - 22 April at 2pm daily, this fun, educational programme is recommended for children aged between five and 12 years. You'll need to get in and secure your place - due to its popularity during Easter, bookings must be made 24 hours in advance and are available to limited numbers so everyone gets to enjoy their caving experience to the max!

Liz Lindsay, Discover Waitomo Brand Manager, is thrilled that the Easter Bunny will be leaving a trail of eggs during the fourth round of Cave Kids, a programme that launched last year.

"Caving is very popular with children, as is Easter, so we thought what better way to celebrate Easter with Cave Kids in April than with a treasure hunt for eggs," says Lindsay. "The three-hour escapade provides children with a fun, Indiana Jones-type adventure that's like being in the movies.

"In preparation, kids start with a warm-up of fun, cave-themed activities. Then it's off to explore hidden parts of the caves on a guided 1.5km tour, before heading off the beaten track to find fossils, bones, buried treasure and a magic door that opens with special codes.

"Cave Kids will also get up close with glowworms, learn about cave formations and hear about cave myths, superstitions and ghosts, and best of all, they only need to bring on the tour comfortable walking shoes, a warm jacket and a sense of curiosity," she says.

Kids are welcome to bring their cameras to record the moment they discover their Easter treasures, and they'll also get their own Cave Kids workbook to help them make notes on their maps and activity sheets.

Parents, caregivers and children over 12 years needn't feel they are missing out either, as the 2pm Cave Kids tour runs within half an hour of the Black Labyrinth tour with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Company, meaning everyone can have a great day underground. And once the little Cave Kids adventurers have worked up an appetite there is a delicious meal available at The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co Cafe that's included in their Cave Kids pass.

Priced at $30 per child for a three hour fully supervised trip, this is true value for money. While parental supervision is not required for those 8 -12 years, you are welcome to join your child's adventure for $67 per adult (ticket only).
