Ward nominations received

TWO nominations have been received by the Manawatu District Council to fill the vacancy on its Feilding Ward following the election of Councillor Margaret Kouvelis as the new District Mayor.

Feilding residents Kim Fenn and Grant Hadfield are the first candidates to send in their papers since the nomination period opened on March 20.

Neither candidate stood for council at the 2010 Local Body Elections.

Nominations close at noon on Tuesday, April 17.

Deputy Electoral Officer Janine Hawthorn said a by-election was now impending as a result of the two nominations.

Twelve candidates vied for the five Feilding ward seats in 2010, with Mrs Kouvelis, Matt Bell, Tony Jensen, Barbara Cameron and Steve Gibson elected to council.
