Franklin District Council will be increasing its parking enforcement from 4 hours a week to 20 hours a week from Monday 5th of November. These 20 hours will be spread between the three main town centres.

“Our aim is to limit all day parking within the centre of the towns, ensuring that parking is available for visitors and shoppers to help make our main streets more accessible,” says Franklin District Council’s Directory of Regulatory Services, Peter Thom.

The increased enforcement comes after Council adopted changes to the District’s Traffic Control Bylaw in August 2007 which standardised time restricted car parks within the Pukekohe central business area.

As a general rule parking is available for 60 minutes on King Street, 120 minutes on side streets and the Ring Road, and 180 minutes in most Council car parks within the Ring Road. Most car parks outside the Ring Road are available all day.

“The Pukekohe Business Association asked Council to come up with some ideas to help keep the available car parks in the central business area flowing. The new time restrictions and the increased enforcement are some of the ways we are responding to this issue,” says Peter.

Tuakau and Waiuku are also set to benefit from the increased enforcement. Council would like to remind residents that disability car parks, no stopping areas and other parking rules are also enforced.
