Clean up begins after mudslide at Lyttelton substation

Work will begin today to clear away mud and rubble from around Orion's damaged Lyttelton substation after a mudslide above Simeon Quay yesterday.

Geotechnical engineers will be at the site today as work gets underway.

"As soon as we're notified that the slip above the substation is no longer a safety risk, we'll be able to fully assess the substation and work out what needs to be done to stabilise the building," says Orion Chief Executive Rob Jamieson.

The substation supplies power to 1000 customers, including Lyttelton Port.

Power supply in the area has been unaffected by the damage caused by the mudslide.
