The sound, colour and tastes of Thailand will be on show at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House at the end of this month.

‘Destination Thailand in Hastings’ will bring Thai culture, arts and crafts, food, music and song to the Opera House. The event will feature music and dance from the Hawke’s Bay, Auckland and Wellington Thai communities along with a selection of food from the four different regions of Thailand.

Hastings District Councillor and Chairman of the Council’s International Advisory Group Kevin Watkins says, “This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating culture of Thailand. The event will feature a selection of the music and dance that makes Thailand such a popular destination for tourists from all around the world.”

“Vibrant colours will be found in the pottery and silk exhibition while there will be a wide range of musical instruments on display. The population of Hastings is becoming ever more multicultural and this is a great way for the Thai community to bring their exciting and colourful culture and heritage to others in the community.”

Elements of the Songkran Festival, which signifies the end of one year and the start of another will be on display. Also featured will be the Loy Krathong Festival, which is celebrated each year in Thailand with lotus-shaped vessels containing candles being floated on water to bring good luck for the coming year.

‘Destination Thailand in Hastings’ will be take place in the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on Sunday April 29th between 10am and 4pm. The Thai Ambassador to New Zealand Mr Nopadon Theppitak will officially open the event at 11am and public entry is free.
