District Plan Review Consultation

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has opened up more areas of the District Plan for comment as part of their District Plan Review. The sections of the Plan under discussion include a number of existing Special Zones and the current rules relating to temporary activities, including events.

A series of eleven brochures (outlined below) have been released and people with an interest in any of the seven Special Zones under discussion or the situation with temporary activities are being asked to take a look at the proposed changes and give Council their feedback.

Council’s senior policy analyst Blair Devlin said the brochures laid out current issues and identified options that could be used to simplify and streamline the zone provisions.

“We want to hear from the public if there are any other planning matters we should be considering as part of the District Plan Review for new development in these areas, as local residents have intimate knowledge of their local area that we can learn from”.

“We’ve also picked up on the recommendation from the Shaping Our Future Events forum that recognised there is on-going confusion among some event organisers and regulatory bodies surrounding consent requirements and permissible activities making it difficult, time-consuming and in many instances costly to produce events in the district. We feel the options proposed in the consultation brochure about temporary events will fix these problems”.

2.      Temporary activities (including relocated buildings, temporary construction activity, temporary military training, temporary storage and temporary utilities)

Special Zones

3.      The Rural Visitor Special Zone

4.      The Rural Visitor zone at Arthurs Point

5.      The Rural Visitor zone at Cardrona

6.      The Hydro Generation Special Zone

7.      The Bendemeer Special Zone

8.      The Resort Special Zones (including Millbrook, Jacks Point & Waterfall Park)

9.      The Quail Rise Special Zone

10.   The Penrith Park Special Zone

11.   The Meadow Park Special Zone
