MARLBOROUGH

Twice each year, the Council gardeners plant out thousands of annuals in the flower beds of Seymour Square. With autumn here, the time has come for the annuals to be removed and the garden beds prepared for the spring planting.

The weather is always a factor for the flowering annuals and it’s been pretty erratic in recent months, but the gardeners are hoping that the beds will be in full bloom again by the end of August, perhaps early September this year.

So next week, the beds will be dug over and the geraniums, salvia, petunia, marigold and alyssum removed, to make way for the spring flowers of pansy, viola, poppy and wallflowers.

This is a chance for local gardeners to take home annuals for their own gardens. Our gardeners will be on site to give direction and ask that people bring their own garden fork and containers, remember that it’s annuals only that are being removed from the flowerbeds.

Happy gardening.
