Well over three hundred people took the time to make a submission to the Council on the review of our dog policy.

Twenty-two people spoke directly to the review committee in support of their submissions.

The review is looking at all public places in Marlborough administered by the Council where dogs may be taken. In particular it is proposed that:

Dogs will not be permitted in the central business districts of Blenheim and Picton

Dogs will not be permitted on the Wither Hills Farm ParkLicence requirements for owners who keep more than two dogs are also under review.

A summary of all submissions can now be found on our website www.marlborough.govt.nz under the section Services subsection Dog and Animal Laws.

Included in the submissions is a petition of 559 signatures asking that dogs be allowed in Picton’s CBD and a smaller petition asking to preserve the current ban. There was a more equal mix of submissions in relation to the Blenheim CBD.

The Council subcommittee that is reviewing the policy is currently visiting the parks and dog walking areas that are under discussion in this review.

It’s expected the subcommittee will be able to prepare its report back to the full Council meeting by the middle of this year.

Dog owners will receive a copy of the revised policy once it has been finalised.
