WELLINGTON CITY

In another first for New Zealand, Wellingtonians can now use their 2degrees Touch2Pay mobile phone, to pay for bus fares on any GO Wellington, Valley Flyer, Airport Flyer or Runciman’s service.

“We welcome and support the use of any new technology that will reduce the need for cash on our buses. With over 70% of fares in Wellington being paid for using Smart Cards, we see this as another positive step not only in providing our customers with an alternative payment method, but also reducing the amount of cash carried by drivers” said Mr. Zane Fulljames CEO NZ Bus.

With more mobile phone subscriptions in New Zealand than there are people (101% mobile penetration); the likelihood of kiwis choosing to use their phones as their wallets is very high.

“With Auckland Transport also exploring the Mobile Wallet concept for payments on public transport in Auckland, we are much closer to our goal of significantly reducing cash transaction on our buses” concluded Mr. Fulljames.
