Keen gardeners can pick up a windfall each season when the Council gardeners clear out the Seymour Square garden beds to make way for the next season’s annuals.

All the annuals have passed their best by the time they’re uprooted but many still have lots of life left. This month Ann Bulfin saved a colourful load of geraniums which should easily re-establish in her own garden.

The Council advertises the ‘help yourself’ day on this page, explaining how, for a couple of hours, any members of the public are welcome to bring their own forks and containers and collect the discarded annuals.

The next date for the changeover date for the garden beds is likely to be in early November when hundreds of pansies, viola, poppies and wallflowers will be there for the taking.
