First Frosts Signal Winter Is Coming Fast

Warmer houses help to combat the asthma, bronchitis and flu rates of winter and the Council supports the Government’s Heat Smart scheme encouraging people to warm up their homes using clean heating options.

The subsidised insulating and heating offered through EECA is still available in Marlborough and Council provides financial assistance to help fund that proportion of the costs not covered by an EECA grant for people in houses built before 2000.

Property owners may be able to pay off their share of the costs by way of a targeted rate on the property, payable through the quarterly rates invoice. The extended repayment timeframe spreads the financial load of making the move to clean heating.
