Last Friday’s balloon bedecked main streets in Tararua announced the nation’s official Push Play Day and the end of a busy month by Sport Tararua District Co-ordinator Pip Hubbard.

Last month was Push Play month and Ms Hubbard’s campaign held in conjunction with Sport Manawatu has seen many of the district’s residents rising to the challenge to become more active.

This culminated in a month long Push Play Challenge among 15 teams with a prize giving ceremony being among Friday’s activities.

Participants enjoyed a healthy lunch to celebrate their success.

The Push Play message is branded to help raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity with the vision being to make New Zealand the world’s most active nation.

It is based on the medical fact that everyone can benefit from even small amounts of physical activity – 30 minutes daily is recommended.

Tararua residents had responded well to the challenge, proving that the district was already a very active place, Ms Hubbard said.

As well as Tuesday’s Push Play Aerobic classes from 9am-10am in Pahiatua and Tai-Chi on Tuesdays and Fridays at Dannevirke at a similar time, Ms Hubbard said there were also “heaps of clubs” that encouraged physical activity.

“Just ring me.”
