MARLBOROUGH

Rural communities and our primary sector depend on hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads across Marlborough.

Marlborough Roads knows these roads are vital links for country people and for important industries like dairying and logging so their maintenance gets a high priority.

With responsibility for 650 kilometres of unsealed roads, Marlborough Roads takes a two-stage approach to their maintenance:

  • Routine grading throughout the year to fix corrugations and rutting and reform table drains.
  • Road rehabilitation works during spring and autumn, involving placing, grading and compacting maintenance metal to rebuild the worn road pavement. Over the course of a year, the maintenance contractor spreads about 33,000 tonnes of maintenance metal across the region’s unsealed roads.

The autumn programme is nearing completion with work done in the Kenepuru and Croiselles/French Pass, the Northbank Road and the Awatere Valley Road. Work will begin shortly on the Waihopai Valley Road, Tin Line/Maungatapu Road, State Highway 6 side roads and in the Ure area.
