Ultrafast Fibre begins rollout of ultrafast broadband network in Hawera

Ultrafast Fibre Ltd will begin construction of its ultrafast broadband (UFB) network in Hawera on 21 May.

Works will begin in the Princess Street/High Street areas and will continue over the next three years, reaching more than 3500 homes, schools, health centres and businesses.

Ultrafast Fibre’s 73 kilometre network in Hawera will include 52km of underground cable and 21km of overhead cable.

“The first Hawera premises can start connecting to our local fibre network from December this year,” says Ultrafast Fibre Ltd CEO, Maxine Elliott.

Ms Elliott says as network construction gets underway, the company’s aim is to keep any disruption to a minimum.

“Some of our work in Hawera involves digging small trenches in front of properties to lay the fibre and closing them back up again.  Other work involves stringing cable along overhead lines.

“Our aim is to construct Hawera’s local fibre network as quickly and efficiently as possible.  We want to bring the excitement of ultrafast broadband to the community in a way that provides a good experience from the start of construction through to when people connect,” she explains.

In addition to Hawera, Ultrafast Fibre Ltd is currently constructing its local fibre network in New Plymouth, Wanganui, Hamilton, Tokoroa and Tauranga.  It begins construction of its network in Cambridge and Te Awamutu in July.

A combined total of 3,000 kilometres will be laid in all eight centres.
