Recruitment for the top job at Queenstown Lakes District Council will get underway shortly with confirmation today that chief executive Debra Lawson’s last day at Council will be 30 June, 2012.

Ms Lawson made public her decision last week not to seek re-appointment for a second term and the matter was discussed at the full Council meeting in public excluded.

“I have agreed with the Mayor and Councillors a final date to enable the recruitment process to get underway,” Ms Lawson said.

The Council was grateful to Ms Lawson for having taken the decision to allow Council to focus on finding a new chief executive, QLDC Mayor Vanessa van Uden said.

On that basis Council has appointed HR consultancy Martin Jenkins to undertake recruitment for the position.

The final terms of Ms Lawson’s departure from the role she has held for 2 ½ years would remain confidential.

“As is always the case, that information will remain a private contractual matter between the Council and the chief executive,” Mayor van Uden said.

Ms Lawson said she felt good about the decision and had no immediate plans other than to enjoy the winter season in Queenstown.
