CHRISTCHURCH

Kids all over Canterbury are invited to make this the coolest winter yet by coming along to TV2 KidsFest, running throughout the school holidays from Saturday 30 June – Saturday 14 July.

This year’s festival will be the 21st, made up of 180 events for children up to 13 years of age. The festival’s mascot, the cheerful yellow dog CoolStuff, will be out and about in the community to celebrate this year’s “Winter Wonderland” theme.

Mayor Bob Parker says, “The kids really do turn out in force for TV2 KidsFest. This event averages 75,000 participants each year, making it the biggest annual children’s festival in New Zealand, and we’re pleased as always to play host. It’s a great way to warm your heart in the middle of winter.”

Free public events include:

The Press 3 Day Winter Extravaganza
Spanning three days at the A&P Showgrounds, this takes in an animal-filled farm day, a day of sandy indoor beach fun, and the ever-adorable Dogs’ Day Out, which caters to canine family members.

MORE FM Twilight Lantern Parade
Bring a lantern, a torch, or anything that glows and join the night-time parade. There will be prizes for best lanterns and best costumes.

Singapore Airlines StarFest
Kids will get the chance to sing, dance and get musical in this prestigious onstage competition, with the grand prize of a family trip to Singapore.

Online bookings begin from Friday 1 June on www.dashtickets.co.nz, and tickets are available from Saturday 16 June at the i-SITE Visitor Centre, next to Canterbury Museum. The opening of the i-SITE box office will have its own morning of entertainment from 10am – noon, featuring clowns, balloon animals, live music and an appearance by CoolStuff.

The Christchurch City Council produces the festival on behalf of the KidsFest Charitable Trust, with support from the Canterbury Community Trust. Listen to 92.1 MORE FM for cancellation notices. Visit www.kidsfest.co.nz for more information on all 180 events.
