Taupō District Council’s Civil Defence Team is working with the Kinloch community to ensure they are prepared for an emergency. During a meeting last week between Kinloch Neighbourhood Support and Taupō Civil Defence, the groups discussed the processes to be followed in the event of an emergency.

Taupō Emergency Manager, Phil Parker, said a community evacuation assembly point was determined (near the golf course) and signage would soon be added.

“We also discussed the role of street coordinators, what they would look for and how they would feed information back to the emergency operation centre (EOC) in Taupō.”

A Civil Defence radio was supplied by Taupō District Council for the Kinloch area to ensure uninterrupted communication with the EOC during an emergency.

“We all feel more comfortable about the emergency processes for that area now,” says Mr Parker. “Next, we’ll look at a localised response plan in which the community identifies hazards and we help determine the appropriate response.”
