HASTINGS

Hawke’s Bay based Asian entrepreneurs, professionals and organisations are being invited to enter a competition which will recognise the potential and unique identity of the Asian community.

An awards evening, to be held in August, will honour businesses and individuals who are making a difference in the community and organisations which have helped promote their own particular culture.

‘Asians in the Bay’ newspaper editor Leigh Burling says “The awards will be of great benefit to the community by promoting the importance of unity, cooperation and the creation of a culture of excellence within the Asian business and professional communities.”

“We are aiming to create an event which will honour Asians in Hawke’s Bay who have reached the very highest levels of achievement in their chosen field.”

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says “The Asian community is a growing part of the region’s population, and it is appropriate that this group of people is recognised with their own awards. People from countries all around Asia are represented in all areas of our society and are well represented throughout the business community. These awards will highlight those people who are achieving at the highest level.”

Awards will be presented in three categories: outstanding entrepreneurs; practising professionals; and outstanding community groups.  Nomination forms are available from http://www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/asianawards  Entries close on June 15th 2012 and should be sent to asiainthebay@yahoo.co.nz

The award winners will be announced at a function to be held at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on August 25th.

The Asian awards are proudly supported by Settlement Support and Hastings District Council.
