Entries are now open for the 2013 Wells New Plymouth Half Ironman, which is shaping up as a ‘must-do’ on the domestic triathlon calendar.

New Plymouth is a sensational venue for the event, to be staged on Saturday February 9, 2013, and with an expected high tide for the swim, spectator viewing will be stunning.

The race sticks to the standard Half format with a 2km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run. There are also 7km and 21km walk and run events on offer in the morning on the same run course used for the New Plymouth Half.

Online entries are now open with a special early bird price of $170 for individuals or $220 for team entries. This offer runs until June 15th.

The New Plymouth Half Ironman has also just been given a huge boost with the Wells Group confirming ongoing naming rights sponsorship.

General Manager of the Wells Group Graham Wells said it was terrific to have the opportunity to continue supporting the event.

“We are a Taranaki based company that is keen to support this event. The efforts made by competing athletes exemplify what the Wells Group is all about - hard work, commitment, honesty and integrity,” he said.

Technology will once again be a feature of the event with the TSB Community Big Screen located at the Start/Finish line.

The screen will live stream video of athletes out on the course and give spectators a real sense of what’s happening throughout the day.

Last year’s winner Brodie Madgwick, who is competing in the Challenge Roth Long Distance European Championship in July this year, said it was one of his favourite races.

“The Wells New Plymouth Half ironman is a fantastically run event. The event organisers have put together something very special in such a short time.

“I enjoy everything about the race; it’s a brilliant weekend in New Plymouth in every way.”
