Tree planting at South New Brighton Park

More than 3400 plants will be planted at South New Brighton Park on Sunday 10 June as part of the Christchurch City Council’s volunteer replanting programme.

The plants, which are a mix of native species and stone pine trees, will be planted in the area where mature trees were felled late last year in the park due to earthquake damage.

The Council’s Transport and Greenspace Manager Alan Beuzenberg says replanting and restoration programmes take place at the city’s parks throughout the year.  Traditionally, the Council’s Rangers organise volunteer planting events to recognise Arbor Day and World Environment Day, which is today.

“The tree planting at South New Brighton Park was made possible due to a donation made by the Auckland Council to the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund.  These funds have contributed to the cost of the plants.

“Community planting events are for people of all ages.  Come along and have fun helping the Council Rangers replant this popular park,” he says.
