The Marlborough District Council has been working closely with Marlborough’s horse-riding community to find a new home base for the sport in this region.

Last year, the Council drew up an outdoor sports facility plan outlining the future use of parks and sportsgrounds around the region, a plan which underlined the needs of the equestrian sports.

A 20-hectare site at Botham’s Bend near Spring Creek has been earmarked for a new equestrian park to be used for recreational horse riding and by our show jumpers, dressage and eventing competitors and endurance riders.

A feasibility study of the Botham’s Bend site is now being prepared. Work is also being done on a layout design and a funding formula for the project. It’s hoped that all issues can be resolved in time to begin construction by next summer.

Once built, this venue would enable Marlborough to attract visiting competitors to local, regional and national championship competitions for all the equestrian sports in the region.
