The Whakatane District Council is advising road users and residents living along Manawahe, Caverhill, Matahi, Herepuru roads and Matata area that Professional Harvesting Systems (PHS) have commenced harvesting a forestry block in the area.

The harvesting operation will see significant trucks movements per day until Christmas using both Manawahe road into Caverhill road into SH2 if heading to Tauranga or through Matahi road to SH30 when heading to Rotorua. These are however expected to taper off from January to February 2008 when the harvesting is expected to be completed.

The Council’s Transportation Manager Corrie Claassen says signs will be put up along Manawahe road warning and alerting road users. In addition information is being published in the Manawahe School newsletter and the local Manawahe Newsletter.

Mr Claassen says the Council will be monitoring road condition particularly unsealed sections. An inspection will also be conducted to determine whether any improvements such as mowing or slashing to improve visibility on Matahi and Manawahe Roads are required.

Residents can contact Greg Bell, of PHS on 07 357 2344 for information about logging truck movements.
