Time is running out for those wanting to stand for the Invercargill City Council, Electoral Officer Graham Low said today.

“Nominations close tomorrow (Tuesday, July 10) at noon and at this stage we have only had three people put their nomination in.

“While some people have announced their intention to stand via the local newspaper, they haven’t actually put in their nomination form in to me yet,” Mr Low said.

An election is required to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Invercargill City Council due to the resignation of Cr Jackie Kruger on June 8, who stood down to relocate to Australia.

Mr Low said nomination forms must be in his hands by noon on July 10 and forms were available from Council’s Civic Administration Building, the Bluff Service Centre and Council’s website www.icc.govt.nz

Nominations must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 (GST inclusive).

Polling day for the election would be August 29 and voting papers were expected to be delivered to households no later than August 12.

For further information on standing as a candidate visit the Invercargill City Council or contact Mr Low at the Council on 211 1777.
