100% kiwi owned Telco, CallPlus and Slingshot poised to take advantage of industry consolidation
CallPlus CEO, Mark Callander, believes the Vodafone and TelstraClear merger will create new opportunities in the New Zealand market.
Callander says CallPlus will be well poised as the third largest Telco in New Zealand after the merger. “Based on the Commerce Commission data, the merger will result in Telecom having a 49% share of the fixed line market, Vodafone/TelstraClear having 29%, CallPlus/ Slingshot with 9% and Orcon on 5%.
“It will be a turbulent phase for the industry and there is potentially further consolidation ahead. This type of disruption creates growth opportunities and CallPlus will leverage this over the next year.”
CallPlus and Slingshot have been working with all the Local Fibre Companies as part of the Government’s UFB initiative and both are expecting to have trial customers on the networks in August. Both the business and residential fibre plans will be announced shortly, which will create excitement in the market.
“At a time when the incumbents are facing major internal changes, we remain focused on our customers and continued growth. We are proud to be kiwi-owned and to have all staff, including our contact centres here in NZ.
“As the largest remaining challenger in the market we are tasked with a very important job. Not only do we need to continue innovating and driving down prices in the market, but we need the regulator to ensure a competitive playing field is maintained. This is critical for everyone across the country.” concluded Callander
