Kiwi tennis player Marina Erakovic has this morning won the doubles title at the WTA premier event US$740,000 Bank of the West Classic at Stanford, California.
Erakovic and her first-time partner, Heather Watson from Britain took just under two hours to defeat the top-seeded combination of Vania King(United States) and Jarmila Gajdosova(Australia) 7-5 7-6(7)for the victory.
The win gives the 24-year-old Erakovic her sixth career WTA doubles title. Serena Williams won the singles title.
Erakovic now plays another US$740,000 WTA Premier event at Carlsbad, California. She faces Britain’s Anne Keothavong in the first round of singles.
