SsangYong vehicles have been on sale in NZ since 1996.  In 2010 Great Lake Motor Distributors, based in Taupo, took over the distribution of SsangYong vehicles and in the last 18 months has been investing in the SsangYong brand and Dealer network.

It has been paying off for the 100% kiwi-owned business with record sales last month of 83, up 20% from the previous sales record set in June 2011.  Fieldays was a contributing factor with the SsangYong team selling 37 vehicles during the four day event.  The South Korean brand is on track to reach its sales target of 650 vehicles for 2012 – a 33% increase on last year and another record for the company.

General Manager Deon Cooper says it is exciting times for SsangYong .  “We have a great team and Dealer network on board and it feels like we are getting some real traction in the market.  We have a quality product at a competitive price and the word is getting out,” he said.

“We are looking forward to the arrival of the petrol Korando later this year which will be great value and also the new Rexton towards the end of the year which we also believe will be very popular.”

This year SsangYong NZ has engaged Kiwi rugby legend Sir Colin ‘Pinetree’ Meads as a Brand Ambassador.  Sir Colin drives the Actyon Sports Ute.
