Dog owners have one more week to register their dog before penalties, then fines, begin to kick in.

The law requires that all puppies be registered by the age of three months. If the animal’s owner is under 16 years old, the dog must be registered in the name of a parent or guardian and they become legally responsible for the animal.

Marlborough’s dog fees are still amongst the lowest in the country.

There are almost ten thousand dogs registered in this district but, too often, it is the unregistered animals which are causing problems.

There’s always a last minute rush by dog owners to get their animals registered but this year it’s possible to pay at Animal Control or at the Council counter. After July 31, Animal Control officers will follow up all dogs whose registration has not been renewed. If your dog has died, or changed owners, please advise Animal Control.

Don’t run the risk of a $300 fine if your dog is located unregistered.
