Robin Brooke has announced his continued sponsorship of the Mahurangi Rugby Club.

The Warkworth New World owner says he has fond memories of the club playing there as a youngster when it was known as the Warkworth Rugby Club.

Brooke played representative rugby for Auckland before being made a New Zealand rugby representative making his international debut in 1992 against Ireland.

Brooke who also captained the Auckland Blues and was in the Auckland NPC sides in 2000 and 2001 before retiring, says he feels compelled to support grass roots rugby.

Brooke was born in Warkworth and attended Mahurangi College, it was in his seventh form year he was selected to play for the New Zealand Secondary Schools team and his international career began.

Brooke says the opportunities afforded young rugby stars are significant and says he would love to see other Mahurangi kids achieve the same success he has enjoyed.

"I hope to encourage them in their love of the game. I believe that its important as a community to foster this young talent so they can achieve whatever they set their minds too."

Along with his support of the Mahurangi Rugby Club Brooke also provides shirts for the Mahurangi College First XV and says he enjoys presenting the players with their uniforms.

Brooke says he’s eternally grateful for the opportunities rugby has given him.
"I got to travel and learn about different cultures at the same time playing a sport I loved.  I lived in Italy for three years and the international exposure was great for developing a huge network of contacts and excellent business skills which I still apply today.”
