CARDRONA

Remember the fun you had the Cardrona Vintage Fair last year? Well, it’s back so look forward to delicious Cardrona treats like rabbit stew, spit roast, scones, pikelets, apple crumble, damper for the children and much more to try on the vintage market. By the way, the broom and gorse is flowering again for the famous broom and gorse fritters, so this is an absolute must to try should you have missed out on them last year.

Cardrona Vintage Fair at the Cardrona Hotel on Sunday 25 November 2007 from 12:00 pm

Talking about the market, we got 20 stalls featuring “vintage” products plus a big Cardrona stall with local products on offer. We will have bra fence memorial postcards, stained glass panels, Martin Curtis' music CDs, wood turning and soy candles, just to name a few. Plus, Cardrona artist Gerald Stodart will exhibit his works during the fair

On a culinary note again we will sell local products like elderberry tarts, elderflower champagne, irresistible chocolate truffles, Christmas cakes, beetroot and rhubarb chutney, mince pies, rhubarb and ginger jam, coconut ice, biscuits and toffees, all made using the precious, old family recipes here in the valley.

There will be plenty of activities to enjoy and / or to join in as well. Milly Begley will play and sing live from 12.30 to 2.30 pm and Jamie Robertson's band "Highway 89" will follow from 2.30 pm – entertainment guaranteed!

People can try gold panning, enjoy a wine tasting of local vineyards or they can participate in the vintage dress competition (1860-1900 era) with great prizes to win in adults and kids categories. A stay at the Cardrona Hotel for two, a horseback riding trip through the valley, quad rides at the Cardrona Adventure Park are just some of the great prizes.

It will be also a great day for children with traditional games like 3-legged races, hopscotch, spoon and potato races as well as pony riding. This year all children are encouraged to create their own market where they can buy, sell or exchange toys, books, games and alike. Just a blanket is needed to display the precious goods and a fun kids market day will take off.

All proceeds from this year’s Cardrona Vintage Fair will go back into the Cardrona community supporting the development of the “loop” walking track as the first stage of the planned walking track between Cardrona and Wanaka. There is also a need for a picnic table and a rubbish bin at the Cardrona Hall reserve.

It’s a perfect community event with sponsorship from all Cardrona businesses and with nearly every grown-up living in Cardrona being involved on that day.
