The Taupo Times District Youth Awards are now open for nominations.

This annual event to recognise our youth is open to young people living and attending school within the Taupō District (including Turangi and Mangakino). Young people from year 7 through to year 13 are eligible for nomination in four categories – Arts, Academic, Sports and Leadership/Innovation. There is also an award for the Overall All-rounder.

Taupō District Council, Democracy and Public Advocacy Manager, Tina Jakes says: “The number of nominations has increased year on year. It is great to see that our youth are excelling and our community is recognising that by nominating them. Last year, there were more than 150 students nominated and we are hoping for an increase again this year.”

The four categories are split into three age groupings: Years 7- 8, Years 9 -11 and Years 12 -13. A panel of judges will select a winner and runner-up for each of these age groups.

“Nominations can be made by teachers, parents, coaches or anyone who believes they should be put forward for an award. It’s important that the nomination forms are completed accurately to ensure the nominee is given the best chance of success,” says Tina.

Nomination forms are available from the Taupo Times office, District schools and from Taupō District Council offices in Taupō, Turangi and Mangakino. Organisers encourage the use of online nominations; the easy to use nomination forms are available on the Taupō District Council website here
