Amended Open Water Selection Criteria

Swimming Australian Ltd (SAL) has decided to restrict entries for the 10km event at the 2008 Australian OWS Championships to Swimming Australia members eligible to represent Australia at the 2008 Olympic Games. Consequently Swimming New Zealand has made the following amendments to the 2008 OW selection criteria:

2008 Oceania Championships

Lake Rotoma 3 February

Selection meet – none.

The three male and three female swimmers eligible to represent NZ who indicated their intent to compete in the NZ OW Trials as part of the 10km event at the 2008 Australian OWS Championships before the SNZ deadline of 22 October will be selected to represent NZL at the 2008 Oceania Championships.

Scenario 1
Selection meet – 2008 Oceania 10k Championships

Selection of up to two male and two female swimmers will be at the sole discretion of the SNZ Selectors who will take into consideration the overall standard and depth of the Oceania Championship field and the potential World competitiveness of the NZ swimmers under consideration.

Scenario 2
In the event of the 10k 2008 Oceania Championships not being held or completed on 3 February and subsequently held at a date later than is deemed practical for selection purposes, SNZ will organise a 10k World Selection Trials at Lake Rotoma, 5 February 2008, the day preceding the NZ 5k Championship. This Selection Trials will replace the 2008 Oceania Championships as the selection competition.
