The Auckland labour market in 2011: an overview   (PDF, 12 pages, 278kb)

The infographic Labour Market 2011: How does Auckland compare with the rest of the New Zealand? was presented at the 2012 New Zealand Association of Economists conference. The infographic is supported by a short technical paper.

Geographically, Auckland is New Zealand’s smallest region, yet it is the most populated, being home to around 1.5 million people. This region also has some notable demographic differences to the rest of the country.

The labour force in Auckland is more ethnically diverse, younger, and better educated than in the rest of New Zealand. There are differences in the jobs Aucklanders do and the industries they work in. Average weekly earnings tend to be higher in Auckland than in the rest of the country, despite Aucklanders working a similar number of hours each week.
