Fancy a walk on the wine side? Whether you’re looking for an aromatic Pinot Gris, elegantly oaked Chardonnay or fruity Sauvignon Blanc, embrace bold, exciting flavours with Mud House Single Vineyard Wines – a range that is truly worth finding.

Created exclusively for the Mud House Single Vineyard range, the inspired new wine releases include the 2011 Mud House Taggart Vineyard Pinot Gris; 2011 Mud House Hungry Hill Vineyard Chardonnay and the 2011 Mud House Neal Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc.

With an inherent sense of place that stems from small parcels of grapes carefully selected by the creative Mud House viticulture and winemaking team, the Mud House Single Vineyard Range boasts vitality, flavour and individuality.

Mud House Winemaker, Nadine Worley, says the Mud House Single Vineyard Range showcases the unique character and style of the winery’s growers.

“Along with our own estate vineyards, each grower parcel is handled separately, allowing the individual characters of each vineyard and block to unveil themselves. Often we come across individual parcels that surprise us and reveal something truly special. The Mud House Single Vineyard Range is our way of highlighting some of these outstanding parcels of fruit,” says Worley.

“Mud House Single Vineyard wines will appeal to those who want to discover a wine that embodies a real sense of place, something unique and full of character, while at the same time providing something just to linger over, savour and enjoy.”

An unctuous and complex wine, the 2011 Mud House Taggart Vineyard Pinot Gris, offers generous notes of apricot and nectarine which preside over beautifully subtle floral and marzipan aromas. Paired with fish such as Terakihi or Snapper, the 2011 Mud House Taggart Vineyard Pinot Gris, is a perfectly weighted wine that’s ideal for summertime.

According to Worley, the 2011 Mud House Taggart Vineyard Pinot Gris, is a product of an unusual viticultural technique in growing aromatic varieties such as Pinot Gris.

“The technique is to remove all the leaves, so that bunches are fully exposed to the sun and elements. In a good year this allows for even ripening and intense flavour accumulation,” says Worley.

“On the Taggart Vineyard this was done in true Kiwi fashion by allowing sheep to roam the vineyard, gently chewing off the leaves to expose the fruit – hence our nickname for this wine – ‘Sheep Plucked’. The sheep did a perfect job and produced a Pinot Gris with beautifully ripe, intense fruit!” she says.

Lovers of Chardonnay will undoubtedly fall for the elegantly oaked 2011 Mud House Hungry Hill Vineyard Chardonnay, with its straw yellow hue and lifted notes of citrus and white fleshed peach with sweet spicy oak.

Sure to be a popular choice for seasonal entertaining and an ideal partner for a juicy roast fillet of pork, the 2011 Mud House Hungry Hill Vineyard Chardonnay, is characterised by a full but refined palate, boasting flavours of fresh citrus blossom with toasty brioche flavours to finish.

Mud House Winemaker, Nadine Worley, says as the most southern valley in Marlborough, the Ure Valley is located just one kilometre from the Pacific Coast, with limestone soils unlike anywhere else in the area – perfect for creating a structural, complex Chardonnay.

“Made using fruit selectively hand-harvested from the sunny side of the vines in the truly unique Ure Valley, the 2011 Mud House Hungry Hill Vineyard Chardonnay, proves you can have a refined but complex Chardonnay with weight and power, without being heavy,” says Worley.

With its pale straw colour and intense aromas of nettles, jalapeño peppers and grapefruit pith, the 2011 Mud House Neal Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, presents fresh yet bold flavours and a pure fruit sweetness that combines perfectly with a ripe, crisp acidity. The perfect match for a hearty seafood laksa, the 2011 Mud House Neal Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, is classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at its best.

The Neal Vineyard is located in a sub-region renowned for rich, deep soils that produce Sauvignon Blanc of intense aromatics and concentration.

“The Neal vineyard is situated in the heart of the Dillon’s Point sub region in Marlborough. The young vineyard has natural vigour, which helps maintain a healthy canopy throughout the growing season,” says Worley.

“Marlborough was blessed with another exceptional year in 2011, especially for Sauvignon Blanc. Bud break was late September and was followed by a warm spring without frost. Adequate rainfall and warm temperatures meant the shoots grew quickly and flowering was earlier than normal. After January, the season cooled, which allowed for an extended ripening period.”

These new, standout wines follow the release of the first ever Single Vineyard release from Mud House – the 2010 Mud House Caseys Road Vineyard Pinot Noir.
