Iconic snowboard film Art of Flight confirmed for festival

QUEENSTOWN

Tickets are still available for the Winter Games Adventure Film Festival featuring three days of adventurous sport and lifestyle movies screening at Reading Cinema in Queenstown, this weekend.

Just confirmed to the programme, The Art of Flight is a 90-minute film about renowned snowboarder Travis Rice and friends redefining what is possible in the mountains. Viewers will experience the highs, as new tricks are landed and new zones opened in previously unexplored mountains, alongside the lows, where avalanches, accidents and wrong-turns strike.

Film Festival guest speakers, Red Bull athletes Chuck Berry and Ben Brown, will talk about their adventures and films; Airborne: The life of Chuck Berry and Red Bull Flow Hunters  about a 35 day adventure that sees Brown and his friends travel over 8000km throughout New Zealand, paddling for 24 days and descending 17 rivers.

Judges were impressed with the high quality of entries for both the film and photography competitions. The finalists’ work will be screened at the beginning of all sessions with the audience voting for the overall winners. Competition winners will each get mountain bike season passes for Skyline Gondola and vouchers towards new film and photography equipment.

“The range of adventures screened in this year’s film festival is outstanding," said festival manager Malcolm Blakey. "The films provide the viewer the chance to experience extraordinary physical and mental challenges, as well as visit some truly spectacular places in the world, all in high definition with surround sound. We are thrilled to have secured The Art of Flight in to the programme, a must-see for all adventure and snowboard enthusiasts.”

Other films on the line up include Snow Collective, recently selected for the IF3 International Freeski Film Festival, a global adventure film with adrenaline-fueled skiers and snowboarders as they challenge themselves on the biggest mountains, Strength in Numbers, a mountain biking film featuring, great tricks, amazing trips and unexpected riding locations, and Unbreakable – The Western States 100 about four of the greatest mountain and ultra-marathon runners.

The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival runs alongside World Cup snow sports action. The FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Halfpipe World Cups takes place at Cardrona Alpine Resort from 20-26 August.

The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival runs from 24-26 August at the Reading Cinema, Queenstown. Tickets can be purchased from Reading Cinema, cash only, or on the website, credit card only.
