Yealands Estate has been recognised at the 2012 Romeo Bragato Wine Awards, winning the New Zealand Wine Cellars Trophy for Champion Sauvignon Blanc.

In addition, Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc  was one of two sauvignon blanc wines presented with a gold medal, with only 30 gold medals awarded overall. The event was part of the 18th annual Romeo Bragato conference, one of the largest wine making and grape growing conferences in New Zealand.

Yealands Estate Vineyard Manager, Gareth Goodsir, says the trophy is fantastic recognition for the Marlborough winery and proof that sustainable environmental practices can produce top quality, affordable wines.

“Our job as grape growers is to give the fruit the best start possible but it is the tireless work and dedication of the whole team that goes into making these fantastic wines. We're very privileged to have such premium cool climate fruit to work with."

This is the second award for a Yealands Estate sauvignon blanc in as many months with the Yealands Estate Single Block Series 2011 having already won the worldwide sauvignon blanc trophy at the International Wine Challenge in June. It is also the second consecutive year Yealands Estate has won at the Romeo Bragato Wine Awards. In 2011, Yealands Estate Pinot Noir Rosé was crowned Champion Rosé of the awards.

The 18th annual Romeo Bragato conference was held at the Marlborough Convention Centre in Blenheim from 22-24 August 2012.
