Walk and Cycle Pathway Maps

Get Moving and Tasman District Council have updated Motueka and Richmond walking and cycling pathway maps. These are now available from Tasman District Council Service Centres and Libraries. The maps show points of interest as well as the walking and cycling tracks, and aim to show the easy and scenic ways to get around Motueka and Richmond.

Promote Your Summer Event in Hummin

Would you like to promote your summer event to thousands of visitors and locals for free?

Every year, the Tasman District Council produces Hummin’ in Tasman, a guide for locals and visitors to help promote the events, attractions and businesses of the Tasman District. 20,000 copies of Hummin’ in Tasman are distributed free through i-Sites, Libraries, Council Service Centres, A&P shows, campgrounds, the Richmond Mall, Nelson Airport and other outlets across the region.

This year event details (of events running between 1 November 2012 to Easter 2013 and based within the Tasman District) will be taken from the It’s On website,www.itson.co.nz, the region’s free online events guide. So if you want your event included in Hummin’, make sure its listed on ‘Its On’ before Friday 5 October 2012.

If you are unable to add details to the Its On website, please email through full event details to Mike Tasman Jones (mike.tasman-jones@tasman.govt.nz) at Tasman District Council before Friday 28 September 2012.

Get Moving

Get Walking, Get Running, Get Cycling

Get Moving is an Active Communities project focused on encouraging and supporting you to get walking, running or cycling. Get Moving runs the Ride On cycle skills courses, cycle maintenance courses, organises entry level events and takes the mobile cycle skills trailer across the region. The project produces maps, organises guided walks and provides information on the clubs, groups and events in our region. The focus is on the fun social side of things – more coffee ride than marathon. Get Moving points you in the right direction with the contacts, support, advice and information you are looking for to get you started – any age, any ability. Arts Festival Acts Close to Home

Tasman residents don’t have to travel far to soak up some of the riches on offer in October’s Nelson Arts Festival, thanks to performances sponsored by Tasman District Council.

The festival, produced by Nelson City Council, features more than 70 diverse arts events, including eight international acts. This is your chance to see some of the best theatre, dance, cabaret, music, talks and community events the country can offer.

Festival Director Sophie Kelly says some of her personal highlights take place in Tasman.

“All the way from Canada and performing at the Mussel Inn is H’Sao, a stunning a cappella group, sharing songs, stories and African dance from their homeland Chad. The Yoots, a high-energy calypso ska band from Wellington, will get everyone singing along at Neudorf Vineyard on the Sunday of Labour Weekend,” she says.

“Another show not to be missed during the long weekend is Arthur Meek in Richard Meros Salutes the Southern Man, a hilarious theatrical satire about his search for the craggy New Zealand hardness that still glimmers within most urban latte-drinkers. We’re also delighted to present author Fiona Farrell in the beautiful surrounds of Woollaston Estates in Poetry in the Vineyard, as part of the festival’s Page & Blackmore Readers and Writers series.”

Festival highlights:

  • H’Sao, Mussel Inn, 16 October 2012 at 8.30 pm
  • Richard Meros Salutes the Southern Man, Takaka Village Theatre, 20 October at 8.00 pm
  • Sing Along with the Yoots, Neudorf Vineyard, 21 October 2012 at 3.00 pm
  • Poetry in the Vineyard, Woollaston Estates, 22 October 2012 at 12.30 pm

The full festival programme is available at the offices of the Tasman District and Nelson City Councils, Everyman Records, libraries, retailers, cafes and key visitor outlets. Book your cheaper early-bird tickets at www.nelsonartsfestival.co.nz.
