Captivating shows at the Winter Games Adventure Film Festival

Adventure enthusiasts and film buffs flocked  to Reading Cinema at the weekend for the Winter Games Adventure Film Festival, a three-day programme of entertaining and inspiring films, speakers and a photography exhibition on the big screen.

With a sell-out crowd at all the night time sessions the Adventure Film Festival will be back next year as part of the Winter Games Downtown Sessions promising to be bigger with more competitions, an exciting selection of adventure films from around the world, and more sessions across multiple venues throughout the region.

“We’ve been screening captivating and inspiring films for the last three days and nights and it’s been fantastic, it was great to have excellent support from the locals and we look forward to expanding the programme and offering the festival to a wider audience next year,” said Malcolm Blakey, festival director.

New to the programme for 2012 the inaugural photography competition attracted entrants from around the world. Chosen by audience votes the winning image was Sundial by Guillaume Charton from France. With 80% of the votes the winner of the short film competition went to Queenstown based Themistocles Lambridis from Greece for his film Leggs about one man's obsession for adventure which takes him through a near fatal injury to perseverance.

The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival ran alongside World Cup snow sports action. The FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Halfpipe World Cups took place at Cardrona Alpine Resort from 21-26 August.
