ACC today welcomed the release of the Government’s Review of the Way in which Physiotherapy Services are Funded and Accredited by ACC.

“Physiotherapy is a vital part of the rehabilitation that ACC provides to people who have been injured and we are committed to improving our relationships with the sector”, said Dr Jan White, ACC Chief Executive.

Some of the review’s recommendations are for ACC and physiotherapists to work on, such as finding ways to improve our communications, while others are for the Government to consider, e.g. the broader financial issue.

“Although we need time to consider the full report it is clear that some constructive ideas are being suggested in the areas for which ACC is responsible. We had already begun to consider our options for addressing those areas and will absolutely feed the Reviewers comments into that work.”

“This is a collaborative process where everyone contributes, in an effort to improve the services that are available and get better outcomes for people who are injured. That is the ultimate goal and ACC will continue to work towards that end”, Dr White added.

The Review notes a broad consensus that the processes ACC has put in place since 2005 for audits and investigations are clear, transparent and appropriate. That said, comments were also made about ACC’s implementation of those processes, noting that more can still be done. No problems were identified with ACC’s monitoring processes but it is recommended that these processes be made more transparent.
