The Dunedin City Council (DCC) launched the Dunedin People’s Panel on 7 August 2012, since when, 503 people have joined the People’s Panel.

The membership of the Panel is wide ranging with the youngest member at 17 years and the oldest member 85 years.  There is also a reasonable spread geographically across the Dunedin communities.

Paul Orders, Chief Executive says, “We are pleased with the response we have had from people in the community wanting to have their say on a range of issues. It’s very encouraging that so many are willing to become a sounding-board to inform our future policies and decisions.”

Panel members have already been asked to complete the first online survey, inviting their thoughts on what role the DCC should play in areas of social wellbeing.  The survey closes today at 5.00pm, with already 361 responses received. This survey forms part of the wider consultation on the DCC’s draft Social Wellbeing Strategy which closes to submissions on 21 September.

Mayor Dave Cull says, “I am looking forward to hearing what the Panel members think about our role in social wellbeing.”

A full report outlining the feedback given by the Panel members will be sent to the Panel members and will be available online at the end of September 2012.
