The first stage in the Hastings Street redevelopment has reached the halfway mark with work on target for completion in November.

Temporary seal is keeping the street free from loose gravel and providing parking while traffic has been moved to the seaward side of Hastings Street. This has allowed the focus of work to move over to the western footpath.

Final road shaping and sealing begins in mid-September between Albion Street and Rebel Sport. The remaining area from Rebel Sport to Vautier Street will be completed at the end of the project.

Also programmed is work on the western side of Hastings from Station Street to the Napier Courthouse. Existing paved footpath will be removed and new street lighting, lit pedestrian shelters and paving bands will be installed before preparatory work begins for new footpath.
