Skilled job vacancies advertised online increased in August, according to the latest Jobs Online report from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

The latest results show skilled job vacancies increased by a seasonally adjusted 4.9 percent in August compared to the previous month. Total online job vacancies (both skilled and unskilled) increased by 2.6 percent.

Growth in online job vacancies grew over the past year, with both skilled and total job vacancies increasing by 7.9 percent compared to a year ago.

“The demand for skilled labour in Canterbury continued to be strong over the year. Growth in job vacancies in the region was driven by the construction and engineering industry and hospitality and tourism industry groups,” says the Ministry’s Labour and Immigration Research Centre General Manager Vasantha Krishnan.

The Jobs Online series shows that over the last month, growth was seen in the construction and engineering (up by 8.1 percent) and information technology (up by 7.4 percent) industries.

There has been noticeable growth across all skilled occupation groups in the last month from July 2012. The strongest growth was for managers (up by 11.5 percent), followed by technicians and trades workers (up by 4.6 percent) and professionals (up by 2.5 percent).
