Street Jam will show skateboarders at their very best in Hastings this Sunday (30th September).

The event is a fundraiser for the new outdoor skate park which is to be constructed on land bordered by St Aubyn Street, Avenue Road and King Street.

Atomic Events Centre director Mark Wilson says “Street Jam will be an exciting event and is the first competition of its kind to be held in Hastings for a couple of years. The event is going to be huge, and we have secured some big name sponsors like Element, ABC, SOUF and many more.”

“A testing course will be set up in the old Warehouse carpark and we are expecting a large number of competitors to show us some unbelievable skating. There are some amazingly talented young skaters in Hawkes Bay and I know this will be a great spectacle for all ages."

Top class Wellington skaters Luke Browne and Sam Crabtree will demonstrate their incredible skills on a board during Street Jam.

Street Jam is being organised by members of the Hastings District Youth Council and the Atomic Events Centre. Competition begins at 1pm with heats for the under 12 skaters. This is followed by heats for the 13-15 year olds at 1.20pm and then heats for the 16 and over skaters at 1.40pm. Semifinals and finals will be held for all classes starting at 2pm.

Hastings Street Jam will be held this Sunday September 30th at the old Warehouse carpark in Market Street. Competitor registration opens at noon and costs $5 with the skating action beginning at 1pm. If it is wet, Street Jam will be transferred to the Atomic Events Centre in St Aubyn Street.
