HAWKE'S BAY

Hawke’s Bay winery Crossroads was named the Champion New Zealand Syrah at the New Zealand International Wine Show Awards Dinner over the weekend.

Trophy winning wines all won gold medals in their respective classes at the 2012 New Zealand International Wine Show, and were then selected by judges as the 'Best of the Best' in the show.
The Crossroads Winemakers Collection Hawkes Bay Syrah 2010 was one of only five awarded gold this year.

Miles Dinneen, Winemaker for Crossroads is thrilled that the Winemakers Collection Syrah has been recognised with a trophy at New Zealand’s largest wine awards.

“Our Elms vineyard on the Gimblett Gravels consistently produces excellent Syrah with the past vintages recognised with gold medals and a trophy. Our 2010 is the best one yet with beautiful purity of fruit and aromatic lift from a great vineyard, in a great season,” says Miles.

Judges described the wine as creamy and spicy with juicy fruit, velvet-edged tannins and a deep smoky oak backbone, perfumed with violets, dried rose and a potpourri of herbs.

The 2012 New Zealand International Wine Show was the second largest wine competition ever judged in New Zealand, with 2,122 wines entered. All wines were reviewed by a panel of 26 judges, led by Bob Campbell MW.

Yealands Wine Group secured 25 medals in total at the show, including four gold, four silver and 17 bronze.
