A temporary Frankton Track detour will be put in place next week while a  group of old pine trees is removed.

The trees are situated lakeside on the Queenstown side of Frankton Marina.

“Due to their age, size, health and stability they have been deemed a risk and a danger to track users, particularly in windy conditions,” Queenstown Lakes District Council parks manager Gordon Bailey said.

The removal would commence on Monday (8 October, 2012) weather permitting. Mr Bailey said it was likely the job would take the full week.

Safe detours for users of the Frankton track will be in place during this work but short delays may be necessary at certain times during the felling process.
