Mayor Alistair Sowman was on hand to farewell Ken Lusby from Blenheim on his mission to walk the length of the country to raise money for Cure Kids.

Mr Lusby is a Lion Club member and members of Blenheim’s Lion Clubs hosted him during the Marlborough leg of his journey, collecting donations from the public and providing hospitality.

Mr Lusby and his support team, John Neal and Tony Brown, expect to make it to Cape Reinga within a month and hope to raise $100,000 for Cure Kids’ funding of research into children’s life-threatening illnesses.

Mr Sowman commended the Lions Clubs for throwing their support behind such a good cause.

“Our service clubs play a vital role in supporting worthwhile causes across our community and nationwide and they deserve acknowledgement for their willingness to help others,” said Mr Sowman.
