HAMILTON

Saturday sees Central Hawke's Bay Olympian Westley Gough join his SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team mates for the first time since he won bronze on the track at the London Olympics.

After taking a break after the Olympic Games Gough is now building towards the Powernet Tour of Southland that starts in Invercargill on Sunday 28 October. He is lining up with SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Nick Lovegrove, Scott Creighton, Simon Binney and Matt Gorter in Saturday’s elite 156 kilometre Te Awamutu Open being held near Hamilton.

Elite riders will complete six laps of a challenging circuit that was used for the 2000 national elite road cycling championships.

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling General Manager Hayden Godfrey said it was a good race for riders preparing for Southland and was looking forward to Gough racing again after his break.

Godfrey said the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team for the Tour of Southland would be named early next week.
