NIGHTCAPS

Nightcaps is under a total hosing ban, and residents are being urged to conserve water as high demand takes it toll on the township’s reservoir.

Southland District Council technical officer water and waste Karen Ladbrook said the water-saving measures were vital to preserve emergency storage and firefighting supplies.

“Under the total hosing ban, any use of hoses, sprinklers and irrigation systems is prohibited – but we’re hoping if everyone pitches in now to conserve water, the supply will quickly recover and we’ll be able to resume normal supply soon,” Ms Ladbrook said.

“If the restrictions present serious difficulties for any of the residents, we’d encourage them to give us a call, so our team can look at ways to help them manage.”

Council staff were also inspecting the water network to double-check for any faults that might be contributing to the shortage.

“If anyone spots what looks like it might be a water pipe leak – whether it’s on public or private property – we’d really appreciate if they give us a call as soon as possible, so we can check it out.”

Residents would be advised when normal use resumed, Ms Ladbrook said.
