Lakes Leisure and Wilson Contractors have teamed up to install a new water fountain in the fields that run adjacent to Joe O’Connell Drive leading into the Queenstown Events Centre. Located to provide easy access for people using fields 4, 5 and 6 and the Queenstown Trails Cycleway, in addition to providing free filtered water it is hoped the fountain will encourage people to re-cycle their plastic drinking bottles.

Lakes Leisure’s Events and Venues Manager, JD Marrable, said that although the initiative was led by Lakes Leisure who purchased the fountain, it was the generous help of local company Wilson Contractors, who installed the community asset free of charge, that saw the project completed.

“Wilson Contractors were really supportive of the project. When we approached them in order to ascertain how much it would cost to get the work done and got talking about it also serving the Queenstown Trails Cycleway, they offered to do the work free of charge. It will make a real difference to everyone out there playing sports and even better that we could position it right next to the cycleway,” Mr Marrable said.

The fountain is designed to be easily used by people of all ages and is easily accessible by both wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
