Hastings District Council is to host the first of what is hoped to be an ongoing series of regional forums focusing on positive ageing.

The Regional Positive Ageing Forum will encourage service providers including government agencies, local councils and community providers to share their thoughts on the issues which affect older people. The forum is aimed at providers of services for seniors, rather than individuals.

Hastings District Councillor Margaret Twigg says “It is important to ensure that the older members of our community have the resources and information which will allow them to maintain a positive attitude, feel good about themselves and keep fit and healthy. Ageing is a time when significant changes might occur in a person’s lifestyle but it is also a time when there are many rewarding experiences to be enjoyed.”

Fellow Councillor Sandra Hazlehurst says “The population of New Zealand is ageing, but those people who choose to age positively live longer and healthier lives, and enjoy a good quality of life. The forum will be a great chance for the providers of services for older people to explore the opportunities and issues which relate to our aging population.”

Sandra Hazlehurst says “The Regional Positive Ageing Forum will also help identify what type of workshops and presentations could be explored in the future. It is envisaged that the forums would be held quarterly.”

The regional forum on positive ageing will be held in the Hastings District Council Chambers on Monday November 12th 2012 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
