As summer approaches so do the twin issues of overhanging trees and shrubs and overgrown sections.

Trees and shrubs that encroach onto footpaths hamper access and cause problems to pedestrians – particularly the elderly or those lacking mobility.

The council asks property owners whose shrubs are in this category to get their pruning shears out.

Vegetation is not allowed to project more than 600mm from the boundary fence or below the height of 2.5m.

The council would prefer to avoid officially requesting property owners to remove the offending vegetation but if this happens they have two weeks to act before the council does the job itself.

The cost will then be charged to the property owner.

Overgrown sections should also be mown or have a weed eater applied at this time of the year.
